Lovely location, clean well appointed, superior customer service!
Bill B., Portland, OR US
My wife and I spent 4 nights over Christmas with our son and his wife and their two large dogs. There was plenty of room for everyone. The views are spectacular and the Penn Cove location has a fascinating mussel farming operation that was interesting to observe. Our walks on the beach at low tide were a shell collector’s dream and we enjoyed bald eagles and much wildlife.
The kitchen was well appointed and my wife and son cooked a full Christmas dinner in the facility.
Unfortunately there was a problem with the hot tub and because all the literature said call Tara Property Management at any time, I did reluctantly because it was Christmas Eve and I didn’t want to ruin anyone’s Christmas. That coupled with a major winter storm heading in, I told Tara’s I was just letting them know but didn’t need anyone to come out on Christmas.
They were fantastic. They texted, emailed and kept in touch. Notified the hot tub company and offered to come out the last day.
The winter storm blocked the roads and bottom line, Tara was fantastic and refunded hot tub and a portion of our fees. Top quality, personal service made a small annoyance a non-issue.
We are already looking at some other times to visit the area and will definitely give a preference to properties managed by Tara Vacation Rentals.

Amazing gathering space for an intimate family reunion. Tara Vacation Rentals went above and beyond to assure our comfort and satisfaction. Will MOST DEFINITELY stay here again, and am curious about Tara’s other rental properties given the care they provided. Many thanks!

This house is a gem! Amazing, expansive views from the living room, kitchen, and bedrooms. Great way to watch the wildlife. The beds were very comfy and the couches in the sunken living room were a great place to relax in front of the gas fireplace. We enjoyed the hot tub as well. Can’t wait to return .

We rented this home for a week in July for a family event. Our grandchildren
3 and 6 yo met us for a few days and we could not have had a better time. The home was beautiful and well kept. We could not have been more comfortable. Board games and books were such good old fashioned fun.
It was the surrounding wildlife that was the MOST stunning. Majestic Bald Eagles and Blue Heron flew in front of our deck each day. Seals splashed in the water and deer walked on the beach. We made large family meals with delicious seafood caught right in Penn Cove. Best week in a very long time!!

Great Beach House
Mike D., Seattle, WA US
This is a great house for a small family with ample space for 2 adults and 2 kids. It is relatively close to the historic town center of Coupeville but not necessarily walkable with small children due to limited but fast moving traffic and limited shoulder on the road. The road can be slightly noisy inside the house on the main floor at peak hours (nothing to worry about). However, the two bedrooms are located downstairs so the sound is blocked by the hill the house in nestled inside of allowing for very comfortable sleeping (no road sounds whatsoever downstairs). By the way, the king bed in the master is extremely comfortable and I wish I knew the brand as I would buy it for myself! Kitchen has everything you would need, decks are wonderful, bathrooms are a little tight for multiple people, view is spectacular! Hot tub had some issues on our trip but probably will be fixed by the time the next vacationers arrive. Highly recommend the house. It was fun.

This beautiful waterfront home is the perfect place to unwind and get renewed! We went for a mother/daughter weekend and couldn’t have asked for a better location. It rained the majority of our weekend which didn’t deter us in the least as we snuggled up in the cozy living room while gazing out over the water. It’s a win win hidden gem!

We had a lovely time staying at the Evan’s home on Penn Cove. The home was super comfortable with a beautiful view across the water. It was convenient for day trips to Coupeville, Langley, Pt Townsend and hikes at Ft Casey and Ebey Landing as well as the beach in front of the cabin. We loved staying there!

My family of six from New Jersey rented the Evans Beach House for two weeks in August and had a lovely experience! The house was bright, clean, spacious, and very comfortable for all of us. The proximity to the charming downtown Coupeville, ferry, Oak Harbor conveniences, and the cove waterfront (just down the deck stairs!) were perfect for our visit. We made good use of the hot tub and watched beautiful sunsets in front of the fire pit on the spacious deck. Plus, property management was very responsible throughout the booking process. We'd happily recommend this home to others and stay again in the future!

No one wanted to leave
Justin C., Oak Harbor, WA United States
The property was awesome and everyone had such a great time we didn’t want to leave. No issues with the house whatsoever and hopefully we left it in as good as shape as we found it. We spent a lot of time down by the water Harvesting Mussels, clams and Oysters which can all be found at low tide just down on the beach below. The only thing I would have changed about the stay is the weather. This water front property is no exception that when the forecast says it will be cold and windy it will be colder and windier next to the water. We were hoping for a little more warmth during our stay but never really got it. Thanks to the Tara Property Team for having a little gem like this on the market. It was a great extended weekend home away from home for our family to hang out to celebrate my sons graduation.

PNW get-away for a Colorado Family
Cathy E., Bailey, CO US
My family and I spent a week at the Evans beach house and we had such a wonderful time. When you first enter the home, you are greeted with a full-blown view of Penn Cove. Our mouths dropped at the sight of that view. While we spent a few days wandering around the BC area, we spent the rest of the time on island and relaxing at the home, which fit our needs very well.
The only downsides were that the cookware needs an update. Because it is supposedly non-stick, it should be changed out, but the pans are very worn, so everything we cooked stuck. Aside from that, we had a lot of luck using the outdoor grill and had wonderful coffee every morning. One other thing that should be mentioned is the windows. Since they are the main point of the home, they could use a good thorough cleaning inside and out. But...hanging out on the deck sure made up for the lack of clean windows as well as listening to the birds in the morning.
Lastly...and this is a very happy discovery...but, the eagles! We were wowed one early afternoon as we watched one of the resident eagles swoop down into the cove real close by and then fly right in front of the deck on its way to its nest. It was absolutely awesome. Afterward, my hubby and I took a walk along the beach to the Coupeville wharf and on the way noticed two more eagles. One in a tree above our heads and the other a juvenile eagle along the shore.
I shouldn't have said lastly above...but now it is lastly. On our first night at the house, we were all in the hot tub when I heard a blow hole in the cove. I turned to see the back of what I believe was a hump back whale peaking up and then disappearing in the water. Now, that's a warm welcome to Penn Cove if anything.
Thanks again for sharing the Evans beach house.

Fabulous Stay in Penn Cover as always!
Nancy L., Seattle, Washington United States
Very nice, we've stayed here 3 times and really enjoy the accommodations. It's a beautiful setting, comfortable and nicely furnished. The view of Penn Cove is lovely, especially at sunset. This was a girls weekend getaway so we chilled in the hot tub and did some cooking when we weren't on the beach.
A suggestion is to replace some of the nonstick pans as they are pretty worn & not usable. Also, leave some ice in the trays for the next guests!

What a wonderful place! We needed a couple of days to decompress, and this couldn't have been better. Beautiful views, wonderful property, walking distance to town, hot tub on deck, what could be better. Had minor problem with oven, management company was very responsive and polite. We'll definitely be back.

Beautiful cozy house on the Puget Sound

We stayed at The Evans Beach House for our annual girls weekend Feb 7-11, 2019. There were 8 of us and we all thoroughly enjoyed it! We had plenty of comfortable sleeping options (the mattress in the loft was a pleasant surprise!), seating for meals at the table, comfortable couches and chairs looking out to the water, a spacious hot tub, and the kitchen was fully stocked! We arrived Thurs just before our record breaking Washington snow storm hit, closing down many cities all around us. We took the opportunity to enjoy the fireplace and hot tub, the amazing waterfront view, played games, put together puzzles, and crafted. We had a few out of town friends who joined us on our weekend and Tara Vacations made it very easy to get all of our payments in without a hassle. They were very professional and helpful. The property was well priced, comfortable, and had a fantastic location! I would definitely recommend staying at Evans Beach House any time of the year!

Very relaxing. The house key on the fridge should be replaced. I couldn't get the front door open with it. Go have dinner in Oak Harbor at Frasiers Gourmet Getaway. Absolutely amazing! All the shops in Coupeville were nice and the restaurants were good. The hot tub was dirty when we got there, and not functioning right, but someone was out the next day to correct it, and luckily the hot tub guy came by right after we got there and cleaned it so we wouldn't miss a night of soaking. Thank you! The beds were super cozy and comfy. The grill worked great! Reading, napping, eating.....wonderful place to chill, and watch the harbor seals and herons. Loved the cutting board counter tops. And of course, THE SWING CHAIR! The best amenity at the house! Spent every dusk looking out over Penn Cove with my headphones on and the tunes playing. Can't wait to come back and eat more mussels!

My family and I had the most relaxing time on Whidbey Island. We just spent the mornings drinking coffee on the deck watching eagles and seals.Usually went to a sandy beach (Double Bluff) during the day and came home in the evenings to make dinner and walk the beach below. Our 2 year old had the best time gathering crab shells and oyster shells. The salt air smell was magical. Had a small water issue while there but the Management Company handled it with great grace. Would stay here again.

The house is excellent. Exactly what we were looking for! Very private location right on the water. Saw the seals and all sorts of wildlife. The bonfire pit by the water was a huge plus as well as the hot tub. The grill got a lot of good use. Highly recommend!

Rented the Evans Beach House with my wife and 7 year old son. Home was clean and the only issue we had were a couple of burned out lightbulbs which the management property said they would be happy to replace that day (wasn't necessary for us). The location couldn't have been more perfect as it is maybe a 3 minute drive to the Ebey's Landing hike, restaurants in Coupeville, and 12 min to Oak Harbor. The beach was great for my son who loves to look for crabs under rocks when the tide is low. The fire pit was wonderful to use at night. The hot tub was well maintained and easy to use. I can't recommend this place enough to anyone looking to spend some time on the island.

Overall was a very relaxing vacation. Location and views can't be beat. We really enjoyed watching the birds in the water and at the bird feeder. The hot tub was amazing, and great supply of towels provided. Beds were very comfortable (although we did not use the mattress in the loft). Our only complaint is the lack of usable cooking pots and pans. The ones provided were very old and had the non-stick finish ruined. There was no roasting pan either. Other info that might be helpful to visitors in advance is that there is no cable or netflix. Other than those small things, it was a wonderful stay!

This was our 2nd time at this fabulous home right on Penn Cove, near Coupeville. We love the house, it's big, bright, nice furnishings. We love the kitchen area and big windows facing the view of Penn Cove. Very comfortable and peaceful for the 4 of us. Hot tub is wonderful. we had a minor issue getting the temperature higher on 2nd day, but management co. was quick to call and talk us through. We were able to get it resolved for our last soak! Suggest that the master bedroom blinds be replaced as they're really falling apart and deter one from using the sliding door to the hot tub. Otherwise it's a great house & we will be back!

Girls Gone Mild Bachelorette Weekend
Meara F., Fort Collins, CO United States
Spent a weekend at the Evans' beach house to celebrate a bachelorette party. Our main goal was to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The beach house is in the perfect location: Picturesque views of the Penn's Cove and accessibility to Coupeville for groceries and restaurants. We loved our stay! The beds were comfortable and clean, the hot tub complete with oceanside views was perfection! Would absolutely recommend to a friend!

Great Beach House
Recent Guest, Sammamish, WA United States
The house was, well maintained, with great views, and clean. However, it is pricey for the 4-5 hour drive to reach (from the Seattle area). I will definitely be looking to rent again in the future.

The property is well managed. The size of the house and layout made it perfect for our group to have some quality time together. Also to note, it is a great kitchen to cook in which we really valued.

The house was beautiful. And the view as well. There were a few issues with lights and an outside heater but they were fixed right away when we called.

Wonderful retreat
Brian G., Lynnwood, WA United States
This house is amazing - wide open views of the water, no houses nearby so you have plenty of privacy. Beautiful interior. The dining table also has great views as does the hot tub (very large!).
It is next to the road, but you barely hear the traffic since it doesn't have much traffic. If you plan to bring two cars, it might be tight in the driveway.
Both bedrooms are downstairs so you can make noise upstairs while others are sleeping. Loft above the main room which is fun for younger kids (steep ladder, though).

Weekend at the Evans House
John O., Marysville, WA United States
My family rented the Evans house on Penn Cove Whidbey Island for the weekend. We had a tremendously good time. The house was clean and well prepared, and the location was fantastic. Just had a great weekend. Only issue was the stairs were REALLY slippery when wet,and the check out time was rather early on Sunday at 11am, but we knew that going in. We will be back. John

Retreat from the Desert Heat -
Pamela G., Las Vegas, NV us
We left the desert for 5 wonderful days on Whidbey Island. We rented as a multigenerational family home our married daughters, their husbands and our grandaughter. We cooked some meals in the well appointed kitchen and had many meals at the great local restuarants. We especially liked The Front Street Grill and Christophers. The mussles and salmon were delicious. There was an art festival that was great fun. We also took our little two year old to the lavender farm to pick flowers. She had great fun selecting just the right flowers - Total cost $2.50! While we were out of season to pick berries we went to the Berry's farm and they welcomed us onto the property while they were feeding the sheep. We used the hot tub nightly was very easy to use and is always kept hot. There were numerous Eagle sightings as well as seals and on land many deer. We all had a relaxing wonderful five days!

Penn Cove Splendor!
Recent Guest, Wilsonville, OR United States
A great place for us. Everything worked as described. Well stocked and great amenities. As with other reviews this is a great place for a group that doesn't mind sharing bedrooms as the "Sleeps 8" means "Sleeps 3 in one bedroom, Sleeps 3 in the other bedroom and 2 in the loft" For us it was perfect! Eagles and Herons cruised by daily, hot tub worked great, lots of kitchen amenities! The beach was great for exploring! Will stay again if we can.

It is a pretty nice home and the location was good close to Coupville and Oak Harbor. The beds were very comfortable but it would be hard for more then 2 couples to stay as you would have to share bedrooms. The loft would be good for kids pretty much have to sleep on the floor.A few problems but all in all it was good for us.

The Best House in Coopville
David D., Lynnwood, WA United States
We had the most wonderful time! The views from the windows of this house are amazing. It's so peaceful to watch the waves and the birds. We even saw a seal! Everything is very clean. The kitchen is well-stocked. And the beds are comfortable. Our only regret is not choosing to stay a few more days. We will definitely be back

A must see / vacation destination
Donald T., Lake Stevens, WA United States
My new wife/best friend Shirley and I were so very pleased to have had a chance to stay at the Evans #243 Beach House. It was so much more then we expected. Plenty of room, very clean and the view was spectacular. The thing we most enjoyed though, was just how private and quite the setting is. We would recommend to anyone that a stay here will make you fall in love with Whidbey Island and the surrounding area. Our last night there, the evening breezes were calm enough to enjoy a fire in the outdoor fire hearth. That was icing on a really great cake. We would be very happy to pick this beautiful place for another stay.

Book Club Retreat a Success!
Recent Guest, Seattle, WA United States
This year six of us attended our annual book club retreat. We loved this home! I think it was our favorite of all of them. Though it's right on the road, once you go in you don't notice at all because your attention is grabbed by the fantastic view onto the water at the other side of the house. The mussel farm is right there, too, and it actually made the view even more interesting. At high tide the water is right up to the retaining wall, but at other times the pebbly beach is pleasantly walkable. The house is very convenient to the parks we like - Fort Ebey State Park, Fort Casey Historical State Park, and - my favorite - Ebey's Landing. And of course, charming Coupeville is very nearby. The house is well appointed, comfortable and clean. We had a wonderful long weekend and were very happy with this place, as well as with the property management company.

Weekend on Whidbey Island
Recent Guest, Bothell, WA United States
We had some friends in town from Colorado, and they wanted to experience a Pacific Northwest Island stay. What better place than Whidbey Island!!! We had a great visit, and the house was wonderful. We enjoyed watching the mussel farm outside our window in Penn Cove. Even had some mussels at Christopher's down in Coupeville. A visit to Christopher's is a must if you are staying in Coupeville. Make sure to make reservations.
We loved the privacy, and the walks on the beach. Loved everything about it! Thank you!

No better location to kick off the New Year!
Tracy C., Lake Stevens, WA United States
What a great place to enjoy ringing in the New Year. Even with temperatures in the low 20s, the amount of windows in this location allowed you to enjoy nature at it's finest. The kitchen and dining amenities were great. The large island allowed nice, festive flow for a family of eight. The bed configurations worked out just fine too. The two teenagers in our party loved the loft. Having bathrooms on both floors of the house, access to a washer and dryer, and the hot tub were a bonus as well. Working with Josh and Sharon at Tara Property Management South was also a breeze too. High school combinations locks are a distant memory for me. I really appreciate Josh's patience walking me through the process again. Looking forward to a return visit. Cheers!

Evans House - mid December
Laurie O., Olympia, Washington United States
Overall our stay was excellent except for an issue with the hot tub. We could not get the temp to go above 95*. Since the tub is used as a selling point, and because there are usage charges applied in the rental contract, we are asking for a partial refund. (Already in process.)

Beautiful House!
Marc R., Pullman, WA United States
Great experience! The house was beautiful, just as it appeared on the website. Right next to the water, two decks, and plenty of space inside. I was also impressed by all the helpful items and amenities throughout the house: TV/DVD player/DVDs, plethora of cooking and eating utensils, large gas grill and outdoor fireplace, etc. Check in and check out was fine. The house was clean. No complaints. It is also a short drive to Fort Ebey State Park, which has wonderful hiking trials.
Overall a lovely site for a getaway. It should be noted that although the home is advertised as pet friendly there is a very little area around the house for walking a dog. The beach is many steps down and very narrow if the tide is high, not at all satisfactory when dark. Also, bed location should be looked at carefully by prospective renters.
